Hyderabad FC has extended their goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani’s contract by two years ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League on Friday, the club announced on their social media platform. As part of the new contract extension, the goalkeeper will stay at the club till the end of the 2024 season. Kattimani was the star of the show in the Hero ISL final against Kerala Blasters FC in the penalty shootout.
The custodian made three saves and he was awarded the Player of the Match for his prolific saves. Thus, he played an instrumental role in helping Hyderabad FC lift their maiden ISL title.
Kattimani had played a total of 22 matches for Hyderabad FC in the previous season and he has a save percentage of 72.61. The 33-year-old from Goa is delighted to sign the contract extension with the ISL defending champions.
“I am very happy to sign a new contract here and I am really grateful to the club for their trust in me. We have an incredible group here. We are one big family and I’m sure together we can achieve many more things,” said Kattimani after putting pen to paper with the Indian Super League Champions in a deal till the end of the 2023-24 season.
The shot-stopper added that the team’s head coach Manuel Marquez really believed in him and backed him to the hilt in the previous season.
“Manolo is a coach that really believed in me since he arrived here at the club and gave me the opportunity and confidence to get back to my best. So definitely he played a big part in me continuing here at the club,” added the shot-stopper who earned a well-deserved call-up to the National team.
Meanwhile, Kattimani has the experience of playing 81 ISL matches and he has registered a total of 14 clean sheets.
Giving a message to the fans, Kattimani said, “We really missed you guys the past two years with the situation of Covid, but we felt your support on social media and I only ask you to continue their support from the stands this season and remind everyone how important you are to the team. You are an important part of the family!”
