ISL 2022-23: Mumbai City FC are a good team but they have weaknesses: Odisha FC’s Josep Gombau

Odisha FC head coach Josep Gombau stated Mumbai City FC are a good team but they have their weaknesses, which they will look to exploit at their home venue of Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar on Monday. The Islanders are currently in second place in the standings with eight wins and three draws in 11 matches.

On the other hand, the Kalinga Warriors are in sixth place with six victories, one draw, and four losses. Thus, Josep Gombau’s team will have their work cut out against Mumbai City FC.

Odisha FC has lacked the knockout punch as far as goalscoring is concerned as they have found the back of the net on 15 occasions, which is the least for the top six teams in the standings. Furthermore, they had lost their previous match against Kerala Blasters FC by 1-0. Ergo, they will need to turn the tables against Mumbai City FC.

“We did not create enough chances against Kerala Blasters FC, we have worked on it this week and we have good players at the top who I hope start scoring more from Monday and for sure the results will come,” Gombau said in the official pre-match press conference.

“As (the) head coach of Odisha FC, we need to find a way to match Mumbai City FC and improve on our chances to get a result in this game. We are working, and everybody wants to continue with the good results we have at home. Our job is to try to win, and this is our mentality. I expect it to be an equal game, we will have our chances and moments against them,” the head coach stated

The Spaniard added their aim will be to win the game against Mumbai City FC and claim three points out of the match to begin their 2023 on a positive note.

“We play with the same aim, to get all three points, and with all due respect to Mumbai City FC, they are a good team, but they do have weaknesses. We will look to do some damage to them while trying to avoid silly mistakes and being aware of what the opposition can bring to the game.”

Gombau revealed the team’s environment is good and they will look to rope in the services of a winger in the January transfer window.

“Everyone is working hard, the environment is very good, and it is true that we are missing players in one particular position (the wing). Now we need to find a player and try to bring him in as soon as possible, other than that, we are happy with the squad we have,” the Spaniard concluded.
