ISL 2022-23: My ultimate aim is to win trophies and titles with FC Goa: Alvaro Vazquez

FC Goa’s new recruit Alvaro Vazquez has revealed that his ultimate aim is to win trophies and titles with the club after he joined hands with the Gaurs. Vazquez has made a move from Kerala Blasters and he had played a key role in taking the team to the final of the tournament.

The Spaniard had scored eight goals in 23 matches for the Tuskers in the previous edition of the tournament. Vazquez had also recently said that FC Goa’s playing style will suit his game and he will score more goals for the Gaurs in the upcoming season.

The striker said it has been a wonderful experience of playing in Indian conditions.

“To be honest, playing in India has been a wonderful experience,” the Spaniard remarked in the press conference on Wednesday. “I didn’t expect India to have so many football-loving people and for them to receive me so well.

“At the end of last season, FC Goa showed the most interest, and they had a clear idea of how I would fit into their plans,” Vazquez revealed. “My agent obviously alerted me first about the club’s interest, and later I spoke to some of the players and the coach (Carlos Pena) before fully making up my mind.”

Meanwhile, earlier FC Goa had appointed Carlos Pena as their new head coach ahead of the next season. Pena had earlier played for FC Goa and his experience is going to be vital for the club.

“It’s good that Coach Carlos (Pena) has played and knows the league.  We also have players who know how it is to play in the ISL. We’re already in touch with each other and have been pushing each other to train harder because the ultimate goal is to win matches and trophies for the team,” he said.

Vazquez added that it will be imperative for the club to come up with a collective effort in order to savor success in the upcoming season.

“Collective success is the primary focus. If we’re able to do well as a team, it further means that we’ve done well on an individual level also.”

Meanwhile, FC Goa had a disappointing run in Hero ISL 2021-22 season as they managed only four wins in 20 matches to finish at the ninth place in the standings, and thus they could not qualify for the semifinals.
