NorthEast United FC has signed the services of goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharja ahead of the ninth season of the Hero Indian Super League, the club made the announcement on Tuesday on their social media handles. Bhattarcharja has all the experience under his belt and will definitely add a lot of value to the Highlanders squad.
The goalkeeper from Kolkata has played in every Hero ISL season so far and has the experience of playing in 90 matches in the tournament. The 33-year-old had played 11 matches in the previous season for Emami East Bengal in the last edition of the competition.
Bhattacharja has played for both East Bengal and ATK Mohun Bagan in the tournament.
NorthEast United FC technical director Ohad Efrat is delighted to sign in the goalkeeper.
“We are very happy to have a top-quality goalkeeper like Arindam in our squad. He is very experienced. He will lead us from the back and help the team to reach our goals this season,” NorthEast United FC technical director Ohad Efrat commented on the signing.
Meanwhile, Mirshad Michu had done a decent job for NorthEast United in the previous season and thus there will be healthy competition between Michu and Bhattacharja for a place in the starting XI.
Before signing the services of Arindam Bhattacharja, NorthEast United FC have roped in midfielders like Jithin MS and Emil Benny from I-League champions Gokulam Kerala FC.
On the other hand, NorthEast United FC had a disappointing previous season in the tournament as they could only manage three wins in 20 league stage matches.
They finished at 10th place after only bagging 14 points and the club will be determined to turn the tables in the ninth edition of the Hero ISL. Thus, the Highlanders will be determined to turn the tables in the upcoming season of the tournament.
