ISL 2022-23: Our football has massively evolved under Aidy Boothroyd: Jamshedpur FC’s Peter Hartley

Jamshedpur FC’s captain Peter Hartley has opined that their football has massively evolved under the tutelage of new head coach Aidy Boothroyd. . Aidy comes in with a huge amount of experience and has played an instrumental role in the success of many clubs in England.

The veteran recently worked with Football Association (TheFA) in order to manage the England youth teams. Boothroyd began his managerial career with Watford back in 2005 when he was only 34 years old.

He was able to hit the ground running as Watford was promoted to the Premier League in the 2005-06 season. Thus, he has more than 17 years of experience in the field and knows how to get the best out of his players.

Furthermore, Boothroyd has played a key role in developing England players like Ben Chilwell, Calum Hudson-Odoi, Trent Alexander Arnold, Tammy Abraha, Mason Mount, Jordan Pickford, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Boothroyd is trying to guide the players on the right track. Jamshedpur FC was at their best in the previous season as they finished as the table toppers to win the League Shield. However, Jamshedpur FC lost their opening match of the season against Odisha FC by 3-2.

“Our football under Aidy Boothroyd has massively evolved. The way we want to play, the structure behind the way we play, the triggers – with and without the ball, there’s a lot of information and it takes time to adapt and improvise with things,” Peter Hartley said on the LFL show.

“Last season, we were unapologetic. We knew exactly what we were as a team and we stuck with our strengths and rolled teams over. We didn’t need to apologize to no one about the way we played and the results took care of themselves,” the center-back added.

Meanwhile, the Red Miners had to let go of crucial players like Greg Stewart, Alex Lima, and Jordan Murray.

“A new manager has come in and the core of the team has stayed together apart from Jordan Murray and Greg Stewart. The manager has a really good mentality and base to build on and he’s implementing his own ideas. Everything takes time, especially with new fundamentals, principles, and the way he wants to play and his ideas. We’ve had a good solid 7 weeks now,” he stated.

“We know success isn’t a straight line so there will be bumps and cracks on the road but we have the mentality within the team to have a very successful season,” he added.

Jamshedpur FC will play their second match of the tournament against Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai on Saturday.
