NorthEast United FC’s goalkeeper Mirshad Michu has opined that their main is to win the championship in the upcoming season of the Hero Indian Super League. The Highlanders had a disappointing previous season in the tournament as they could only manage three wins in 20 league stage matches.
They finished at 10th place after only bagging 14 points and the club will be determined to turn the tables in the ninth edition of the Hero ISL.
Mirshad Michu has set his goals and he wants to lead the club to glory for the first time in the tournament. The custodian feels they had a poor run in the previous season due to injuries.
Michu said while talking to Sportskeeda, ”Our aim this season is to win the Championship. We are working very hard for that. Last season, due to injury problems we had a bad season. But this time we are quite sure regarding our success.”
In fact, the Highlanders finished at third place in the 2020-21 season after winning eight of their 20 matches.
On the other hand, Michu revealed that Khalid Jamil has helped him a lot in rising through the ranks. Jamil had earlier become the first Indian head coach in the ISL.
“Khalid sir helped me a lot. Both in East Bengal and NorthEast he provided me the chance to prove myself. Also, he motivated me a lot to give out my best on the field.”
The 28-year-old had earlier played for East Bengal and he added he misses Kolkata football a lot because of the fans.
“I miss Kolkata a lot. I can still remember the Durand semi-final match between East Bengal and Gokulam Kerala FC. I will never forget the way the fans came all the way round to support us during that match. Also, I miss the Kolkata derby. It’s the biggest match in Indian football. It’s completely a different feeling and different emotion.”
