East Bengal FC head coach Carles Cuadrat feels they were able to change their luck after a lot of work behind the scenes. The Red and Gold Brigade registered a convincing win of 5-0 against NorthEast United FC in match week 8 of the Indian Super League at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata on Monday.
Borja Herrera opened the scoring for the home team in the 14th minute of the game. Subsequently, Cleiton Silva and Nandhakumar Sekar scored a brace for the hosts to put the game to bed and complete a comprehensive win against the Highlanders.
Both teams had equal possession but it was East Bengal FC, who took a total of 10 shots on target and dominated the game.
“We changed our luck with a lot of work,” the Spaniard said after the game in the post-match press conference.
“We kept going, we kept trying and it was a game where we scored the chances that we had. The opponent team was attacking so we had more space. The opposition team even missed a penalty and we got a clean sheet. We were a little bit fortunate, but it’s football,” he added.
“Sometimes the luck doesn’t help and today everything worked for us. All the goals were nice. So, the work we did in the training ground paid off and I’m happy that the players got confidence,” he continued.
Cuadrat reckons they were able to make the most of their advantages and also benefitted from the absence of Bemammer, who is known to toil hard in the midfield for the Highlanders.
“Borja is a creative player. We have to take advantage of the players that we have and try to make a difference,” he said.
“We were fortunate that they were missing Bemammer who does a lot of work in midfield. He wins the majority of their duels and we took advantage of his absence,” he added.
East Bengal FC will next take on Punjab FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata on 9th December.
