Jamshedpur FC head coach Khalid Jamil was delighted to get three away points after their come-from-behind 2-1 win against FC Goa in their opening match of the Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa on Tuesday.
Albanian forward Armando Sadiko scored the opening goal for the Gaurs in the stoppage time of the first half. However, the Red Miners bounced back with Javi Siverio equalizing through a spot kick in the 74th minute. Jordan Murray then scored the winning goal in the injury time to give a thrilling victory to his team.
“It’s an away game against a good team. As I said yesterday, we must get a positive result (from this game). We got it, and that is very good,” Jamil said in the post-match press conference.
The Indian coach expressed his happiness at how his team bounced back in the second half of the game.
Speaking in context, he stated, “This is football. You have to be clinical in converting (your chances). Today, everything went our way.”
“The first half was not up to the mark; they (FC Goa) played well. Albino (Gomes) was good; he saved many chances. The defence was good. We came back (in the second half). Jordan (Murray) came in and made the difference. Good combination among him, Javi (Hernandez) and (Javier) Siverio. Everybody worked hard, and we played as a team. That’s a good point,” Jamil explained.
“I am happy to get three away points, and that’s the most important thing,” he remarked.
Jamshedpur FC will have their work cut out in the next match against ISL champions Mumbai City FC and Jamil said they must believe in themselves.
“We must believe in ourselves in what we can do. We have to prepare, and we should not be overconfident,” he said.
“The next game is also a big game in our home ground. We have to be prepared, and we must get positive results,” he signed off.
