ATK Mohun Bagan has decided to extend their manager Juan Ferrando’s contract till the end of the next 2022-23 season. The Mariners roped in the services of the Spanish manager in the middle of the recently concluded Hero ISL 2021-22 season. ATK Mohun Bagan was struggling a bit in the early stages of the tournament however Ferrando was able to help the club in turning the tables.
ATK Mohun Bagan was able to qualify for the semifinal stages after finishing at third place in the points table with 10 wins from 20 matches. However, their journey in the tournament ended when they lost to eventual winners Hyderabad FC by 3-2 on aggregate in the semifinals.
In fact, ATK Mohun Bagan played 16 matches under the tutelage of Juan Ferrando this season, out of which the club lost only two games. Thus, the Spaniard was able to get the best out of his players and produced the desired results.
ATK Mohun Bagan has an AFC Cup match on April 12 at Yuva Bharati and the team will begin its preparation for the same from April 1. However, the opponents are still not known for ATK Mohun Bagan.
Juan Ferrando extended his gratitude to the team’s owner, Dr. Sanjiv Goenka for showing the trust in him for the next season.
Ferrando said, “I am very grateful to Dr Goenka, Club owner, and the Club Management, for trusting and respecting my work. I had a detailed post-season wrap-up chat with Dr Goenka and we share the same goal and same ideas on what we want and how we want it. After the ISL season, we started to count down the minutes to play in the Yuva Bharati. We are waiting to feel the warmth of the Mariners.”
The 41-year old will once again look to get the best out of his players and guide his team on the right path in the AFC Cup.
