Paris Saint Germain left-back Nuno Mendes has wished incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim all the best for his upcoming stint. Amorim has joined United on a contract until June 2027 after parting ways with Sporting and he will look to help the Red Devils in turning the tables.
The Portuguese led Sporting to two titles but he is going to have his work cut out at Manchester United. Amorim will take the coaching baton after Erik Ten Hag was sacked by the club on October 28.
“I think I just have to congratulate him,” Mendes said about Amorim (as per United in Focus). “I think he is a coach who has done everything for football and is having great success in football. But I think he has the potential to do much more than what he has already done.
“I just want to wish him the best of luck, both to him and to the (Portuguese) players and coaches abroad. I think it is very important (that Amorim succeeds at Man United), and that is all I have to say.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United has got off to a horrid start in the ongoing English Premier League with four wins, as many losses and three draws in 11 matches. The Old Trafford-based club is in 13th place in the standings with 15 points under their bag.
Recently, Amorim admitted it is going to be a difficult job for him at Manchester United but he is ready for the new challenge.
“I feel ready for the new challenge,” he told reporters after a 4-2 win against Braga on Sunday.
“I’m not naive, I know it’s going to be very different, very difficult. I’m at peace now, I can focus on my new job and I’m looking forward to starting tomorrow.”
United will take on Ipswich Town on 24th November after the international break.
