Jamshedpur FC have announced the extension of young winger Mohammed Sanan’s contract, securing his services until the end of the 2027-28 season. The Indian Super League (ISL) club shared the news on Wednesday, solidifying the 20-year-old’s place within the squad for the long term.
Sanan joined the Men of Steel from the Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) academy ahead of the 2023-24 season and has since made a strong impression in his debut ISL campaign.
Sanan, who primarily operates as a left winger, had a breakout season last year, appearing in 20 matches for Jamshedpur FC. During this period, he contributed two goals and an assist, earning praise for his attacking abilities, dribbling skills, and knack for creating opportunities on the field. His pace and agility on the wing have already made him a crucial part of the team’s attacking setup.
The youngster also made his mark in the Durand Cup earlier this year, scoring twice in three group-stage matches, further showing his goal-scoring abilities. At just 19 years old during his debut ISL season, Sanan earned 1,016 minutes of playing time across 11 starts, scoring important goals against Punjab FC and East Bengal FC. His contribution was significant in Jamshedpur FC’s campaign, positioning him as one of the rising stars of Indian football.
Jamshedpur FC’s head coach, Khalid Jamil, expressed his confidence in Sanan’s potential and leadership abilities as he welcomed the extension of his contract. Jamil praised the young winger’s talents and spoke about his growing importance to the team.
“In my opinion, he is one of the best wingers in the league. With this extension, I expect him to take more responsibility and think about his future, not just as a player but as a leader on the pitch,” Jamil said. The coach has high expectations for the player, seeing him not only as a key contributor on the field but also as a future leader within the squad.
Sanan himself was delighted with the contract extension, emphasizing his belief in the club and his commitment to continue his development with Jamshedpur FC.
“It’s an incredible feeling to continue my journey with Jamshedpur FC. There was absolutely no hesitation in my decision to sign a new deal, as I believe this club is the best in the country. The legacy here, combined with a strong focus on youth development, makes it the perfect place for me to grow as a player. My goal this season is to make a significant impact and help the club lift the ISL title,” Sanan shared after signing his new contract.
Sanan’s extension is part of Jamshedpur FC’s broader strategy to invest in young, homegrown talent, which has been a core aspect of the club’s philosophy. The Men of Steel have gained a reputation for nurturing emerging players, and Sanan’s development reflects the success of this approach. As the 20-year-old continues to improve, both the club and the player are optimistic about what lies ahead.
Jamshedpur FC’s management expressed their excitement about the winger’s future with the team. “We are thrilled to extend Mohammed Sanan’s contract till 2028. He is a good, versatile player who has shown immense potential and can do even better,” the club stated, reinforcing their belief in Sanan’s abilities to reach even greater heights.
With the new ISL season on the horizon, Sanan and Jamshedpur FC will be looking to build on last year’s performances and challenge for the league title. The club’s first match of the season is an away game against FC Goa on 17th September, followed by their first home fixture at the JRD Sports Complex against Mumbai FC on 21st September. As one of the league’s standout young talents, Sanan will be looking to make a significant impact as Jamshedpur aim for a successful campaign.
Sanan’s long-term commitment to Jamshedpur FC sets the stage for a promising future, not just for the player but also for the club as they continue to grow their reputation as a nurturing ground for young talent in Indian football.
