Jamshedpur FC started their Super Cup campaign with a smashing win 5-3 win over FC Goa at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode. This win will surely be the confidence booster that they needed after losing the ACF Champions League playoff match against Mumbai City FC.
Rafael Crivellaro had a stunning game as he had a hand in three of his team’s five goals. He scored a brace and also came up with an assist, finally proving his worth as a player. His goals tally also included a 59th-minute free-kick goal.
The Brazilian was very delighted to register a win against a strong team like FC Goa. He shares how losing a match in the cup tie would put them in a tough spot. “(It was a) Very difficult game. I’m very happy about the team. We knew it was (going to be) very difficult, this Hero Super Cup, because if you lose, you don’t have much of a chance to go to the semi-finals. This (win) was very important for us. I think everybody is very happy about the result,” Crivallero said after the game.
Jamshedpur FC are in Group C with ATK Mohun Bagan and Gokulam Kerala apart from FC Goa and qualifying for the semi-finals ahead of ATKMB will be a major challenge for JFC. ATKMB started their Super Cup campaign with a dominant 5-1 win over Gokulam Kerala and are top of the group in terms of goal difference.
The Men of Steel will have an opportunity to go top of the group as they will take on ATK Mohun Bagan next on Saturday and then follow it up with the last group game against Gokulam Kerala on April 18.
Crivellaro understands that despite the big win against FC Goa, they simply cannot rest on their laurels and will have to shift focus and be their best as their next match is against a top team. The Brazilian understands that every game from here is do or die.
“Now we just need to recover and keep going to the next game because it’s very difficult. I think it’s kill or die,” he concluded.
