Indian Super League club Jamshedpur FC have roped in Serbian centre-back Slavko Damjanovic for the remainder of the ISL 2022-23 season, as per reports in the Football Express.
Damjanovic has already played in the ISL last season, where he featured in 19 matches for Chennaiyin FC. He already had offers from other ISL clubs after that but he was more interested in playing European football. So, he joined Novi Pazar in Serbian Super League where he played 5 matches.
The 30-year-old has also played for Bidvest Wits, FC Backa, Loko Tashkent, Spartak, and many other top-division clubs in Europe. He also won the Montenegran Championship and Montenegran Cup with FK Sutjeska Niksic and Buducnost Podgorica respectively.
Damjanovic is primarily a centre-back but he is versatile enough and can also play as a right-back or left-back. He will add a lot of depth and experience to the Jamshedpur backline.
The Red Miners are struggling in this ISL season. They have played nine matches already and have won only one game while losing seven. Their defence, which has conceded 16 times so far, is one of the primary reasons behind their struggles, and Damjanovic us expected to improve their condition to some extent.
Jamshedpur are now sitting in 10th place and Damjanovic will be the second Chennaiyin player to join them after Rafael Crivellaro. Damjanovic’s arrival is a big boost for Jamshedpur as they lost their captain and main defender Peter Hartley to injury. Now it remains to be seen how he fits into the new squad.
Jamshedpur FC will now face Bengaluru FC in their next match, which will be an away game on December 17. If their poor run of form continues, the management might become impatient with coach Aidy Boothroyd.
