Jordan Murray Returns to Jamshedpur FC Ahead of ISL 2024-25 Season

Jamshedpur FC has confirmed the return of prolific forward Jordan Murray on a one-year contract with a performance-based extension option. This significant signing aligns with Head Coach Khalid Jamil’s ambitions to strengthen the squad for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season.

Murray, who last played for Chennaiyin FC in the ISL 2023-24 season, made crucial contributions to their playoff run. His impressive credentials include a pivotal role in Jamshedpur FC’s 2021-22 Shield-winning campaign, making his return a promising boost for the Men of Steel. Over three ISL seasons, the 28-year-old Australian forward has amassed 18 goals and 5 assists, demonstrating his consistent performance and experience in Indian football.

Expressing his excitement about rejoining Jamshedpur, Murray said, “I’m overjoyed to be back at Jamshedpur FC! My goal is to relive the history we created together and perform at the highest level. The furnace is an intimidating venue for opposing teams, and I’m excited to be a part of it once again. Under Coach Khalid Jamil’s leadership, I’m ready to give my all and prove my dedication to the club, my teammates, and the passionate fans.”

Murray’s footballing journey is noteworthy. Starting at Bulli FC, he joined the youth team of Wollongong Wolves in the National Premier League. He then moved to APIA Leichhardt in Sydney, where his remarkable tally of 43 goals in 64 games over two seasons earned him the Golden Boot in 2018. His success in Australia paved the way for a move to the A-League with Central Coast Mariners.

Murray’s ISL debut came with Kerala Blasters FC in the 2021-22 season, followed by his initial stint with Jamshedpur FC, where he contributed significantly to their Shield-winning season. His career continued to flourish with a move to Thai club Nakhon Ratchasima FC in 2022-23, and then to Chennaiyin FC, where he scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists last season. Now, his return to Jamshedpur FC is seen as a strategic move to enhance the team’s attacking options.

Head Coach Khalid Jamil shared his enthusiasm about Murray’s return, saying, “Jordan Murray is a seasoned player whose experience in Indian football is invaluable, and his ability to adapt to different striking roles is a huge asset. He’s versatile enough to play as both a lone striker and a second striker. I’ve spoken to him at length, and I know he’s aware of the competition he’ll face this season. It’s a crucial time for him to prove his worth, and I believe he has the talent and work ethic to rise to the challenge. He’s a quality striker who can make a real difference for us.”

Murray, who will don squad number 17, is set to join his teammates for pre-season training starting in July. His return is expected to add significant firepower to Jamshedpur’s attack, bolstering their ambitions for the upcoming season.

With the new ISL season on the horizon, Jamshedpur FC fans have every reason to be optimistic. The return of Jordan Murray signifies the club’s commitment to competing at the highest level and aiming for silverware. As the team gears up for the challenges ahead, the addition of Murray’s proven goal-scoring prowess is a promising step towards achieving their goals in the 2024-25 season.
