Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho said their main aim is to win the league after a 2-1 win against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday. The Los Blancos took a 1-0 lead after Kylian Mbappe scored in the 41st minute to put the visitors in front.
However, the hosts bounced back after Raphinha equalised in the 61st minute. The tourists had the final laugh though as Mbappe scored his second of the night in the 87th minute to give all three points to his team.
‘It was the most difficult match, against the highest quality opponent, one that had only won in the league. For us, it’s the victory with the most impressive performance,’ Mourinho told reporters.
Speaking after the match, Mourinho said: ‘This is a great win, but when we get back to work, I am not going to let anyone have their head in the clouds. If we win today and lose at El Sardinero [away at Racing Santander next weekend], Real Madrid don’t play to win at Camp Nou, but rather to win the league. We have to keep going.’
‘The lads played an extraordinary match. Very organised, focused, and showing the courage to play the ball out from the back against an opponent that applied a lot of pressure.’
With this win, Madrid are only three points away from Barcelona for the top spot in the La Liga.
‘They’re playing to win the championship,’ Mourinho added.
Real Madrid had suffered two losses in September, which had raised doubts regarding their championship run.
Real Madrid will next take on Real Santander on Sunday while playing away from home.
