FC Goa midfielder Glan Martins has taken giant strides in the recent past. Martins started his football journey with Sporting Clube de Goa and Churchill Brothers. Subsequently, the 26-year old was signed by ATK Mohun Bagan for Hero Indian Super League 2020-21 season.
However, as he didn’t receive a lot of opportunities with the Mariners, Martins made a move to FC Goa during the January transfer window. Martins was able to grab his opportunity with both hands with the Gaurs and played a key role in taking the club to the semi final stages. Subsequently, he also played in the AFC Champions League as FC Goa finished at the third place in the Group stage.
Juan Ferrando stated that Martins is a hard working player and he understands the game really well, which helps him in his camaraderie with other players on the pitch.
“Since Glan joined FC Goa in January, he has been working very hard. He has been very involved in everything the team does — both in training sessions and in games. He has shown himself as a player who is willing to learn, improve and help the team achieve its goals.
“I think the most outstanding thing about Glan is his involvement in daily work and in understanding the game. He makes good choices and involves the teammates playing around him. Glan reads the game well and most importantly, enjoys himself on the pitch,” Ferrando told indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview.
After his impressive performance in the Hero ISL and AFC Champions League, Martins received a maiden national call-up for India’s remaining three matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in Doha.
Ferrando wished luck to Martin and the Blue Tigers for their qualifiers in Doha.
“I hope so, as he has the skills and is a hardworking player. I wish him and the whole team the best. I wish the best for all the 28 players in the squad and hope the national team can achieve good results to boost the present and future of Indian football,” the Spaniard said.
