Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters have announced their agreement with striker Dimitri Diamantakos, who has put pen to paper to stay till the end of the 2023-24 season. The Kerala-based outfit revealed the news on Thursday.
The Greek star had a great debut season in India as he netted 12 goals across all competitions this season and was their highest goalscorer in the 2022-23 campaign. Hence, this was a welcome move for them as they have kept hold of their main man. Diamantakos has gained experience with Indian football and the country as a whole and one can expect bigger and better things from him in the upcoming season.
Speaking on the contract extension, Sporting Director, Karolis Skynkis was very delighted to have another year with the Greek star. He praised his effort for the season and also pointed out his knowledge of the game which helps the team and the youngsters, who get to learn a lot from Diamantakos.
“Dimitrios has been a total team player for us at Kerala Blasters, last season whenever the team needed a moment of inspiration, he always came through for us, his experience and knowledge about the game helps lift the team, especially the young talents in the team who learn from his lead. I wish Dimitrios would continue to build on what he did for the club, during the last season!”
Skynkis shared that Kerala Blasters as a club are focused on backing players who have performed in their roles and Diamantakos was one such player. He hopes that the Greek striker can turn up big time in the upcoming season. “As a club, we believe in backing players who perform and deliver in roles assigned to them. Therefore I am very happy to extend Dimitrios’ contract with the club and wish him all the best for the upcoming season,” he concluded.
The 30-year-old had immense responsibility of scoring goals consistently. Especially after Alvaro Vazquez and Jorge Pereyra Diaz’s departure from Kerala last season. Despite the challenges, Diamantakos stood up to the task and helped the Blasters reach the playoffs for the second time in successive seasons.
”India and Kerala Blasters was a great and unique experience for me, any success that I had during the last season was only possible due to great support from my teammates, coaching staff, and most importantly the Kerala Blasters management,” Diamantakos said after signing the contract extension.
