Kerala Blasters will aim to build on their recent resurgence when they face Odisha FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Thursday in the Indian Super League 2025-26 season.
After a difficult start to the campaign, the Blasters have shown a remarkable turnaround in form. The team has climbed out of the relegation zone and ended a frustrating winless run at home, giving fresh hope to fans. Much of this revival has been credited to the influence of head coach Ashley Westwood, whose arrival has quickly reshaped the side’s approach and confidence.
Dubbed the “Ashley Westwood Effect,” the transformation has seen the Yellow Army register impressive wins against stronger opponents such as Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC. Those results have helped Kerala put together an unbeaten streak of three matches, signaling a shift in momentum as the season progresses.
Despite the recent improvement, the Blasters remain a work in progress. Injuries to key midfielders Danish Farooq and Karim Benarif have emerged as concerns ahead of the clash. Both players have been instrumental in the team’s resurgence, contributing stability and creativity in the middle of the park.
Assistant coach Peter Hartley acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence in the squad’s depth. “We have a system in place and personnel who come in and go out. Everybody in the squad knows their role and what our goal is,” he said. Hartley added that the medical team is closely monitoring both players and remains hopeful about their availability.
Looking ahead to the match, Hartley expects a stern test from Odisha FC. “Odisha is a good team and they are not a one-dimensional side. They play football in the right way. We have our plans in place. Our fundamentals and principles change depending on the team we play,” he noted.
Odisha FC, currently placed 13th in the standings with six points from seven matches, has shown resilience despite inconsistent results. Under the guidance of T. G. Purushothaman, a former Kerala Blasters assistant coach, the team has developed a competitive edge but struggled in away fixtures.
The Juggernauts will be keen to turn their fortunes around on the road and pose a serious challenge to a rejuvenated Kerala side. Meanwhile, the Blasters will look to maintain their upward trajectory and strengthen their position in the league with another positive result in front of their home crowd.
