A dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Sumay Shome earned United SC a 1-1 draw against Mohun Bagan in the latest round of the Calcutta Football League 2026 Super Six on Monday.
The result kept Mohun Bagan at the top of the table with one victory and a draw from two matches. United SC, meanwhile, remained third after registering draws in both of its games so far.
Mohun Bagan will next take on second-placed Mohammedan SC, while United SC faces Bhawanipore FC in its next fixture.
Mohun Bagan controlled proceedings for much of the contest and enjoyed the majority of possession from the opening whistle. Led by Subhashish Bose, the side repeatedly pushed forward, with Kiyan Nassiri and Sahal Abdul Samad playing important roles in midfield.
Despite creating several opportunities and maintaining pressure on United SC, Mohun Bagan struggled to find the breakthrough during the opening 45 minutes.
The same pattern continued after the break. Bagan kept searching for an opening, but United SC held firm as the match appeared increasingly likely to finish without a goal.
However, the seven minutes of stoppage time produced a dramatic finish, with both teams finding the net following costly goalkeeping errors.
Sandeep Malik finally broke the deadlock for Mohun Bagan in the first minute of added time. Kiyan delivered a cross into the area that United SC goalkeeper Susovan Ghosh failed to gather cleanly. The loose ball fell kindly for Sandeep, who made no mistake from close range to put Bagan ahead.
With the goal arriving so late, Mohun Bagan appeared set to secure all three points. United SC, however, responded within minutes to deny the league leader victory.
A free-kick caused confusion inside the Mohun Bagan penalty area, with the defence unable to clear the danger properly. Sumay reacted quickly to the loose ball and headed it towards goal.
Bagan goalkeeper Deeprobhat Ghosh could not keep the effort out, allowing it to slip through his hands and into the net.
The late strike completed a remarkable finish in which both goals came during stoppage time and ensured United SC walked away with a point despite spending much of the match under pressure.
