The 28-year-old is widely expected to leave AC Milan this summer. According to reports from various sources, Leipzig have intensified their interest and are pushing hard to secure his signature.

Club officials contacted Nkunku’s representatives over the weekend to discuss a potential move. The player is understood to be receptive to the idea of rejoining his former side, where he enjoyed some of the most productive years of his career.

Details of any agreement remain fluid. It remains unclear whether the deal would be structured as a permanent transfer or a loan, though a temporary arrangement currently appears to be the more likely route.

Nkunku’s time at Leipzig between 2019 and 2023 produced impressive numbers: 126 goal contributions across 172 appearances.

That output underlines why the German club views him as an attractive option to strengthen their attacking options.

Separately, there has been behind-the-scenes discussion of a potential €60 million offer for 1. FC Köln’s Said El Mala before the window closes. Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with the young French talent.

However, after confirming the signing of Greek attacking midfielder Giannis Konstantelias on Monday, it seems unlikely that Dortmund will escalate their pursuit of El Mala in the remaining days of the market.

For Leipzig, the primary focus remains Nkunku. A successful reunion would mark a notable homecoming for a player who previously thrived in their system and could provide an immediate boost as the new season approaches.
