Leroy Sane completed his first season at Allianz arena after his 45 million move from Manchester City. He won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich and had a moderately prolific season as well, but claimed that he performed below his own expectations.
Leory Sane scored 6 goals and recorded 10 assists in the league campaign, but was slightly overshadowed by the other attacking players in the squad. While Robert Lewandowski was in a league of his own, Thomas Muller registered almost 30 goals and assists.
Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, who are the other wingers in the squad, performed as good as the ex-Manchester City winger, if not better.
The encouraging sign for Bayern Munich fans is that Leroy Sane accepts the fact that he fell short of expectations during his debut campaign, which is a sign for bigger things to come in the future seasons.
“I know that I haven’t played an outstanding season,” the Germany international said in a video chat with Goal and SPOX.
“For me it was a bit more difficult in general due to the corona break and my knee injury. It was important to me to get back my rhythm, to be fit, which I managed to do.
“Now I’m putting all my focus on the European Championship.”
Sane added on Germany’s chances of winning their first major trophy since the 2014 World Cup: “It’s a very big dream to win this title. We have to give our best, and we are preparing very well.
“There is a certain pressure, but each of us is looking forward to this challenge.”
Leroy Sane is expected to partner Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller in the front 3 for Germany during the summer’s tournament. While Muller hasn’t represented his nation for a while, Sane and Gnabry have been nailed on for the record Euro champions.
Leroy Sane garnered 44 appearances across all competitions this season, but started only half of his 34 Bundesliga matches. Overall, he managed 10 goals and 12 assists in his 44 games.
