Spain’s head coach Luis de la Fuente said his team is feeling unbeatable after La Roja qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final by beating red-hot favorites France 2-0 at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored from a spot kick in the 22nd minute after Lamine Yamal was hit on body by Lucas Digne, who was trying to clear the ball but didn’t notice that the Spanish winger was charging him.
Pedro Porro then continued his rich form as he scored in the 58th minute to put France’s dreams in disarray. Spain was well organised and stayed solid in defense as France could not create any threatening goal-scoring opportunities. Furthermore, Les Bleus were not at their absolute best and Spain was able to capitalise.
“We’re feeling unbeatable,” De La Fuente told a news conference.
“They (France) faced the best team in the world. We have that edge. These players deserve everything because day after day, they demonstrate their commitment, their generosity, their solidarity, and their talent.
“It is wonderful to watch them play. Today was a spectacle. What seems difficult, this team makes it look easy.”
Spain got off to sedate start in the tournament, managing a goalless draw against Cape Verde. However, throughout the whole tournament, the European champions have conceded only one goal, which Belgium scored against them in the quarterfinal clash.
“We knew we had to improve little by little,” he said.
“We would have loved to win the first game but it’s a process. It was planned for us to reach the key moments in the best shape possible. We are in great shape and in terms of our football level we have reached our peak.”
De la Fuente said they don’t have any team preference for the final clash.
“Right now we don’t prefer one or the other,” said De La Fuente.
‘They have different characteristics. I would be excited to face Argentina because I’m a close friend of Lionel Scaloni but I really like England as well. We welcome either of them with open arms.”
Spain will face either Argentina or England in Atlanta on Wednesday
