‘Man City are back’ – Pep Guardiola after Ipswich thrashing

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reckons his team is back after they thrashed Ipswich Town by 6-0 at Portman Road on Sunday. Phil Foden scored a brace whereas Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic, Erling Haaland, and James McAtee also found the back of the net.

The visitors had 17 shots, including nine on target, and dominated the possession with 68%. After this win, the Cityzens moved to the fourth place in the standings with 38 points and Guardiola feels his team played like they have done so in the past.

“We are really pleased, we are back to doing things that define this team for the last 10 years. Really pleased for the three points and to climb into qualification for the Champions League for next season,” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the match.

The veteran Spaniard admitted they were much better against Ipswich Town and he is hopeful of his team continuing the good show.

“Much better, maybe not our best, but closer with the consistency we have in our game … Everyone with the ball was clever, quicker, faster, everyone is related. You cannot be quick, wise and good if you are not connected defensively,” Guardiola said.

On the other hand, Ipswich Town defender Dara O’Shea admitted they failed to execute their plans against the Sky Blues.

“We didn’t execute our gameplan how we wanted to. You can never write them off. It was always going to be tough, and we wanted to give a good account of ourselves — we probably didn’t do that,” defender Dara O’Shea said.

“We need to regroup, look back on our mistakes and go again. The main thing is to learn from it, and we cannot get too down on it. There is massive belief in this group and the club.”

Manchester City will next take on PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday.
