Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has said he is not worried with the club looking to sign new strikers. The striker could only net three Premier League goals in his first season at Old Trafford following his £36.5 million ($48.7m) move from Bologna, while making 32 appearances.
Thus, the Dutchman failed to deliver the goods for the Red Devils. Furthermore, Rasmus Højlund also scored four league goals in the last edition as the Old Trafford-based club scored a total of 44 goals in their 38 games.
United has already signed new players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Moreover, Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko are among their potential targets.
Zirkzee said he is not bothered with new signings and said it would only increase competition among the players, which would push them to give their best.
“I think it’s part of being at this club,” Zirkzee said.
“To be honest I don’t read the news but if another striker were to come I guess it’s only good competition so I’m not really worried.
“Everything is for the team, there’s no selfishness here, that’s not my mantra. If it were to help the team then great.”
The Dutch striker suffered a hamstring injury in April and admitted he failed to bring his best in the previous season.
“I don’t think I’ve shown my best form,” Zirkzee said.
“I think I was on my way towards it [before his injury] but I think there’s improvement every day for all of us.
“[Ruben Amorim] wants goals so that’s what I have to work on. That’s what it all comes down to.
“I’m a different profile but in the end if you’re up top you’re supposed to score goals, I’m not going to take that fact away. But the most important thing is that we win so if Bruno scores 60 goals and we win all the games that’s fine.”
