This leaves United in a stronger position to move quickly and decisively. With Napoli needing to cash in before Osimhen’s contract runs out, there’s a real chance United could land a proven goal machine at a cut-rate fee.
But even with this opportunity, Amorim knows the rebuild won’t be easy. Speaking earlier this month, he emphasized that the summer’s transfer work needs to be smart, not just flashy. Amorim stressed the importance of bringing in players who fit his system perfectly — not necessarily superstars, but individuals with the right qualities to execute his vision on the pitch.
Many supporters feared that United’s spending power would be limited after another turbulent season, especially with looming profit and sustainability (PSR) regulations. However, those concerns were eased when CEO Omar Berrada confirmed that the club will back Amorim significantly during the transfer window.
“We speak to Ruben very frequently,” Berrada said. “He shares a strong vision with Jason Wilcox about how this team should evolve. Even if we miss out on European competitions, we’ll be in a strong enough position to invest in building a better squad.”
