Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim said the club owes supporters Europa League trophy. The Red Devils made it to the final of the tournament after registering a 4-1 win against Athletic Club in the second leg semifinal at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Amorim’s men had won the first leg by 3-0 and thus completed a comprehensive 7-1 aggregate win. Mikel Jauregizar scored from distance at the half-hour mark to give a ray of hope to the visitors.
However, all of it was extinguished when substitute Mason Mount scored a brace whereas Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund also found the back of the net.
Meanwhile, it has been a terrible Premier League season for Manchester United, and if they manage to win the Europa League, they would earn qualification for next year’s Champions League.
“It is the least we can do for these fans for the support they give us in this tough season, but I am stressed already because of the final,” Amorim told TNT Sports. “If you don’t win it, it is nothing. We are happy to be there. Let’s see.”
United will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the summit clash. The Lilywhites are also languishing in 16th place in the Premier League.
“We lost the three last games, so we can win this one,” said Amorim. “You look at the odds, we are closer to winning than losing.
“Both teams are going to play all or nothing. The position of the coach is similar. I know Ange has one more year, but we are struggling, both of us.
“We have to understand that a final is completely different to the Premier League.”
The Portuguese manager said they had to work hard in both games against the Spanish club.
“It was a good result, but I think if you look at both games it was so much tougher than just the result,” said Amorim. “We have so many weaknesses but we are fighting but I think we deserve, if you look at the two games, to be in the final.”
The final will be played on 21st May at San Mames.
