A survey conducted by the FC58 supporters group reveals overwhelming discontent, as fans feel they are being pushed aside in favor of higher-paying visitors. For decades, Manchester United has prided itself on having one of the most passionate and loyal fan bases in the world. However, the recent decision to set a minimum ticket price of £66 and eliminate concessions for children and pensioners has left many supporters feeling abandoned.
The survey of 25,000 fans underscores the frustration, with a staggering 92% expressing anger over the price increase. Many see this as an attempt to price out local, working-class fans in favor of tourists and corporate attendees.
Steve Compton, a spokesperson for FC58, summarized the sentiment bluntly: “It feels like the club is cutting off its roots. Generational fans, those who pass their love for United down through families, are being sidelined. If this continues, the atmosphere at Old Trafford will suffer, and so will the club itself.”
Beyond the outrage over ticket prices, many fans believe the real problem lies elsewhere: the Glazer family’s ownership. Under their control, the club has been saddled with massive debt, and fans argue that rather than squeezing more money out of supporters, Sir Jim Ratcliffe should be focusing on removing the Glazers altogether.
The frustration stems from the belief that revenue is being mismanaged. With millions spent on debt interest annually, fans see the ticket hike as a short-term fix for a long-term problem.
“The Glazers’ debt has been draining this club for years. If they were removed, the financial strain would ease significantly,” one fan remarked. “Instead of making us pay more, they should be addressing the real issue—the ownership that continues to bleed the club dry.”
