Mohammedan SC assistant coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo was pleased with players’ effort despite heavy 0-4 loss against derby rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata in the ongoing Indian Super League on Saturday.
A brace from Subhasish Bose and a goal from Manvir Singh gave a 3-0 lead in the first half to the Mariners. Furthermore, Mirjalol Kasimov received a red card in the opening half as Mohammedan SC was reduced to 10 men to add salt to injury.
Singh scored his second goal in the 53rd minute to put the game to bed. Wadoo admitted that MBSG was the better team and they were always going to have their work cut out against them.
“We knew that Mohun Bagan SG is a good team and it would be difficult on the pitch. But we conceded three goals from set-pieces and also that red card in the first card. And when you are one man down against a team like Mohun Bagan SG, you can understand how difficult it is. But the boys gave their best, in the second half, they tried to keep the discipline (while defending). They created chances, but could not convert. Mohun Bagan SG were the better team today,” Mehrajuddin Wadoo said in the post-match press conference.
Mohammedan SC could only manage two shots on target after Kasimov was sent off in the first half and Wadoo said the red card could have been avoided.
“I was not expecting that. You want to play for the team and you somehow take that red card. You should be responsible because playing against Mohun Bagan SG with 10 men is going to be difficult for any team in the league. Not only Mohammedan SC,” Wadoo responded.
Wadoo added the team’s think tank is trying their best to lift the dropping shoulders in the dressing room.
“We try to motivate the players. We had a few training sessions. But we still have to work on the motivation part because the players look a little bit low. We need to work in our training sessions and apart from the training sessions, we need to speak to the players. This season has been like that for us. Now, we cannot think what went wrong in the last game or this game. We need to focus on the coming games, give our best and finish the season on a good note,” he said.
Mohammedan SC will next take on Hyderabad FC at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday.
