Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick downplayed the notion that his team is out of shape amid the struggles at the start of the Premier League season. The Red Devils played a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Lisandaro Martinez scored an own goal in the 63rd minute but Matheus Cunha helped United get a point out of the contest on Sunday. United have managed only five points in the Premier League after games, with a solitary win, two draws and as many losses and they are currently in 12th place.
After the loss, Cunha admitted Fulham’s players were able to “put in more energy”.
The club hasn’t looked at its best but Carrick dismissed that there are fitness woes within the team.
“It didn’t look like that to me,” Carrick said after being asked about Cunha’s assessment. “I was quite happy with the way we finished the game. I thought we finished the game really strongly actually and we kept pushing.
“So I don’t think that’s an issue, no.”
The former Manchester United midfielder admitted that the start hasn’t been ideal for his team and they would look to turn a corner.
“That’s a big thing, without getting carried away with it, because we’ve taken a point and we wanted to win, but it’s part of learning as a group,” said Carrick. “How we respond, what it looks like moving forward, what our reaction is, all that. That’s part of growing as a group.
“Definitely today it could have gone in a different direction — 100% it could have. I was really pleased with the response and I think that’ll help us a lot moving forward.”
United will next take on Tottenham Hotspur on 10th October after International break.
