Mohammedan Sporting Club showed resilience and character as they twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Sporting Club Delhi in their Indian Super League 2025-26 clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday.
The result earned Mohammedan their third consecutive point of the campaign, though they remain rooted to the bottom of the standings with three points from ten matches. Meanwhile, SC Delhi moved up to 10th place with nine points from the same number of games.
The hosts started brightly, dominating possession and forcing Mohammedan onto the back foot early on. Their attacking intent paid dividends in the 17th minute when Mohammed Aimen won a penalty after being brought down by goalkeeper Padam Chhetri inside the box. Matija Babovic stepped up and coolly slotted the ball home to give SC Delhi a deserved lead.
SC Delhi continued to dictate proceedings, with Aimen and Augustine Lalrochana pulling the strings in midfield. Mohammedan, however, gradually settled into the contest after the drinks break, finding more composure in possession and pushing forward with greater intent.
The equaliser came in the 40th minute through Thokchom Adison Singh. A long ball from Makan Chothe caught the defence off guard, and as goalkeeper Nora Fernandes rushed out, Adison kept his composure to round him and finish into an empty net.
SC Delhi regained the lead soon after the restart. A shot from Lalrochana was parried by Chhetri, but Babovic reacted quickest to pounce on the rebound and score his second goal of the match.
Mohammedan refused to back down and drew level again in the 65th minute. From a short corner routine, Lalngaihsaka delivered a precise cross to the far post, where Hira Mondal rose unmarked to head powerfully into the top corner.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, creating chances but failing to find the decisive breakthrough. Solid defending and alert goalkeeping ensured the points were shared in an evenly contested encounter.
While the draw does little to lift Mohammedan from the bottom, it reflects a growing fighting spirit, whereas SC Delhi will rue missed opportunities after leading twice at home.
