Mohun Bagan are on the verge of completing the high-profile signing of full-back Tekcham Abhishek Singh from Punjab FC. The transfer, valued at over ₹8.1 crore, makes it one of the most significant domestic deals in the history of the Indian Super League (ISL).
The 23-year-old defender, who made his India senior national team debut in March 2024 under coach Manolo Marquez, has been one of the standout performers in recent seasons. After breaking into Punjab FC’s first team during the I-League 2022–23 season, Singh evolved into a key figure during the club’s debut ISL campaign. In the 2024–25 season alone, he logged 1,958 minutes on the pitch, impressing scouts and coaches alike with his pace, defensive solidity, and ability to attack from both flanks.
With just a year left on his contract, Punjab FC attempted to extend Singh’s stay but negotiations with the player’s representatives broke down. This opened the door for a transfer battle involving several top clubs. East Bengal initiated the race with a ₹1.3 crore bid, which was swiftly rejected. Mohun Bagan and FC Goa followed suit, but as the demands escalated, only Mohun Bagan stayed in the race.
“Both East Bengal and FC Goa wanted to sign Tekcham Abhishek Singh, but it was Mohun Bagan who fulfilled all the demands of the deal,” a source close to the negotiations told Khel Now.
The deal will see Mohun Bagan pay a transfer fee of around ₹1.8 crore to Punjab FC. Singh is set to sign a three-year contract with an option to extend, earning an average of ₹2.1 crore annually for the first three seasons—excluding performance bonuses.
Singh’s signing is a major coup for Mohun Bagan, particularly in a summer where most ISL clubs have slowed their recruitment strategies following discussions with the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL). The Manipur-born defender brings versatility and a modern full-back profile to Jose Molina’s squad, capable of slotting in on either flank.
As Mohun Bagan gear up for the 2025–26 season, Singh is expected to be a regular starter. His arrival not only fortifies the club’s backline but also sends a clear signal of intent—Mohun Bagan are aiming for nothing less than dominance in Indian football.
