Mumbai City FC Extends Defender Hmingthanmawia Ralte’s Contract Through 2027

Mumbai City FC has announced the contract extension of defender Hmingthanmawia Ralte, commonly known as Valpuia, ahead of the 2024-25 season. The Mizoram native has committed to the Islanders until 2027, continuing his pivotal role in the squad.

Valpuia, who joined Mumbai City FC in 2019, has been a steadfast presence in the team. His journey in football began at the tender age of eight at Aizawl FC, where his performances quickly caught the attention of top-tier clubs. Mumbai City FC signed him in June 2019, recognizing his potential.

Valpuia played a significant part in the club’s historic 2020-21 season, contributing to their victories in both the ISL League Winners’ Shield and the ISL Cup. His reliability and skill have made him a key player for the Islanders, consistently proving his worth on the field.

During the 2022-23 season, Valpuia was loaned to Roundglass Punjab (now Punjab FC), where he became a regular starter. His performances were instrumental in helping the club secure promotion to the ISL. Upon his return to Mumbai City FC, head coach Petr Kratky entrusted him with more opportunities. Valpuia seized these chances, notably scoring his first goal for the club against Chennaiyin FC, which helped secure a spot in the Kalinga Super Cup semifinal.

A versatile defender, Valpuia is highly effective at right back. He has made 23 appearances for Mumbai City FC, with 17 of those in the ISL. His composed ball-playing ability and precise passing have contributed to the team’s tactical flexibility and defensive solidity.

Mumbai City FC’s head coach, Petr Kratky, expressed his delight over the contract extension, saying, “Valpuia is an exceptional talent and an integral part of our defensive lineup. His commitment and hard work have been exemplary, and we are thrilled to have him with us for the foreseeable future. His performances have shown that he has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the league.”

Valpuia also shared his excitement about continuing with the club, stating, “Mumbai City FC has been like a second home to me. The support from the fans, the management, and my teammates has been incredible. I am looking forward to continuing my journey here and helping the team achieve even greater success in the coming years.”

The extension of Valpuia’s contract reflects Mumbai City FC’s strategy to maintain a strong core of players who can lead the team to future triumphs. As the Islanders gear up for the upcoming season, the continued presence of experienced and reliable players like Valpuia will be crucial to their ambitions.

With his contract secured, Valpuia is set to play a vital role in the 2024-25 season and beyond, aiming to add more silverware to the club’s cabinet. Fans of Mumbai City FC can look forward to witnessing more stellar performances from this talented defender as he continues to develop and excel on the field.
