The Islanders controlled possession from the outset, dictating the tempo of the game, but lacked a clinical edge in the first half despite creating several chances. Bipin Singh played a pivotal role in orchestrating Mumbai’s attacks early on, including a near-perfect pass to Vikram Partap Singh in the box, though the latter skied his effort.
Mohammedan SC showed glimpses of danger on the counter, with Vanlalzuidika Chhakchhuak setting up Franca for a shot that sailed high and wide, giving Mumbai City FC’s backline a brief scare. However, the visitors were largely on the defensive as Mumbai pressed forward relentlessly.
The second half began with the Islanders maintaining their high intensity, as Lallianzuala Chhangte nearly broke the deadlock with a shot that hit the woodwork in the 46th minute. The home team’s persistence finally paid off in the 72nd minute when a long ball from Bipin Singh caused confusion in Mohammedan SC’s defense.
