Mumbai City FC have bolstered their midfield with the acquisition of Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung from I-League side Sreenidi Deccan FC, the club officially confirmed on Sunday. The 25-year-old central midfielder has committed to a three-year deal that will see him stay with the Islanders through the end of the 2027-28 season.
Hailing from Mizoram, Bawitlung brings a wealth of experience and consistency to the Mumbai-based Indian Super League (ISL) outfit. A regular fixture in the I-League, he made over 20 appearances each season over the past three years, representing both Sreenidi Deccan and Real Kashmir FC with distinction.
Expressing his excitement about the move, Bawitlung said, “I am delighted to join Mumbai City. The history, legacy, and culture of this club speak for themselves, and I am looking forward to contributing to the same. Playing in the ISL is a significant personal step in my career, and I hope to learn and grow with the experience in the squad.”
His signing comes as part of Mumbai City’s continued push to strengthen their roster ahead of the upcoming ISL season. The club has built a reputation for nurturing domestic talent, and Bawitlung’s arrival aligns with their strategy of reinforcing the squad with players who combine technical quality and tactical awareness.
MCFC’s Director of Football, Sujay Sharma, expressed confidence in the midfielder’s potential to make an impact. “With his dynamism and consistency, we identified Lalnuntluanga as one of our important signings this season. He has always shown grit, tenacity, and discipline on the field, and we’re looking forward to him joining the squad. We’re confident that his attributes will complement the current group of players we have at Mumbai City,” Sharma said.
Bawitlung’s addition adds depth to a midfield that has been central to Mumbai City’s success in recent years. His ability to control tempo, break up opposition play, and provide defensive cover could prove invaluable as the team aims to challenge for domestic honors once again.
As the Islanders gear up for the 2025-26 ISL campaign, fans will be keen to see how the Mizoram-born midfielder adapts to top-tier Indian football and contributes to a side known for its attacking flair and tactical discipline.
