Mumbai Marines FC were held to a 2-2 draw by Bombay YMCA in their MFA Super League match on Wednesday.
MUMBAI, October 20: Mumbai Marines FC almost realised a perfect debut at the historic Cooperage stadium in Colaba until Bombay YMCA’s last minute equaliser.
The Marines side had led 2-1 all the way through to stoppage time when Bombay YMCA pegged them back with an equaliser.
Abbubaker Khan opened the scoring for Mumbai Marines FC in the 17th minute, their first ever goal in a competitive MFA match at Cooperage. Something they had dreamt of since their inception in 2017.
It was Abbubaker Khan who doubled the lead in the 31st minute as Mumbai Marines FC took a 2-0 lead. Their two-goal cushion lasted just one minute as Bombay YMCA halved the deficit through Zaid Khan.
Having lead all the way by 2-1, Mumbai Marines FC went down to ten men in the 63rd minute with their talisman Abbubaker Khan receiving his marching orders with a second yellow equating to a red card.
With the Marines side holding on to their 2-1 lead with a man down, they were almost close to three points Bombay YMCA scored the equaliser from a corner to make it 2-2.
At the full time whistle, Mumbai Marines FC had seen two points snatched from them having to settle for a point. A victory would have meant going level on points against second placed Sea View-FSI whom they face next.
