Hyderabad FC talisman Bartholomew Ogbeche is all set to extend his contract with the club for another year after guiding the Nizams to the Indian Super League title last season. The Nigerian marksman will now be looking to win the League WInner’s Shield in the upcoming season as he stays at Hyderabad FC despite having big offers from many other ISL clubs.
According to reports Ogbeche is very close to putting pen to paper with the Nizams. The Nigerian wants to stay at Hyderabad FC after being chased by multiple ISL clubs in the offseason. Reports also suggest that Ogbeche was convinced to stay with the Nizams after having a thorough discussion with the head coach Manolo Marquez. The Spaniard also signed an extension and will be aiming to win the league this season.
Ogbeche will also have a shot of representing the Nizams in Asia if they keep on performing well in the upcoming season. So that can also be a factor for the Nigerian striker.
The Nigerian forward’s career started way back in 2001 as he started out with local club Lobi Stars. However his journey to France followed by Spain opened up different avenues for him. Ogbeche has plied his trade for teams Paris Saint Germain, Metz FC, Real Valladolid, Cadiz CF, and Middlesbrough among others. He came to India in 2018 to join NorthEast United when Eelco Schattorie brought him to bolster the Highlanders’ attack. Since then he has been undoubtedly one of the best players in India.
He has also featured for Kerala Blasters and Mumbai City FC and won the league winner’s shield and the ISL trophy with the Islanders. He then shifted to Hyderabad FC and guided them to the trophy last season proving his worth as a striker in the ISL. He scored 18 goals in 20 appearances and bagged the Golden Boot last season.
The 37-year-old still has shown no signs of slowing down as the Nizams will need him to keep firing in the upcoming season.
Apart from Ogbeche, Australian forward Joel Chianese is also on the brink of extending his contract with Hyderabad FC whereas star Indian defender Asish Rai has joined ATK Mohun Bagan for an undisclosed transfer fee.
