It has been a rough season for NorthEast United as they are currently last in the Indian Super League points table. However head coach Khalid Jamil feels that his men have worked hard this season but without the desired results. Although he understands the reasons why results have not followed his team, he is more concerned about ending on a high as they take on Bengaluru in their next clash.
The Highlanders are out of the semifinals contention but they are eager to play as spoilsport for Marco Pezzaiuoli’s men. The Blues have some chance of getting into the semifinals.
Speaking on the next match at hand, Khalid Jamil heaped praise on Bengaluru FC. He also pointed out the quality they have with the correct mix of experience and youth.
“They have experienced players, their team is so good, they’re also working hard but we have also prepared very well, so, will not take this match lightly we have to finish the season. That is why everybody knows that it is a serious game,” Khalid Jamil began at the press conference.
Speaking about the objective that the Highlanders seek from the last three matches, Jamil stated, “We are talking about it, we are thinking about Friday’s game, so, it is the best thing we must think about Bengaluru FC match, then we have to see what is there.”
NorthEast United midfielder Mohammed Irshad was also present at the press conference. The versatile midfielder was also asked a couple of questions. When quizzed about the situation ahead from here, Irshad said, “It is very difficult but we are giving our 100% but in the match, I don’t know what happened but we’re all giving our 100% but the next three matches will be crucial for us. We have to play for our fans so we are going to win the next three matches so we are focused on that.”
Irshad has played in different positions in defence and midfield all through his career. But at NorthEast United, Khalid Jamil always used him as a midfielder in the double pivot. Irshad has also found success having scored two goals this season for the Highlanders. Sharing his experiences of playing in different positions, Irshad added, “It’s been good but unfortunately, we didn’t get the results we wanted. But I got time to play. I did my hard work to win but unfortunately, we didn’t get the result. We will try again.”
