Odisha FC delivered a masterclass in domination as they trounced Hyderabad FC 6-0 in an Indian Super League (ISL) encounter at the GMC Balayogi Stadium on Monday. The result extended Hyderabad’s dismal home record, which now stands at 16 winless matches since February 2023.
From the first whistle, Odisha FC, nicknamed the Juggernauts, showed a high-octane performance led by their dynamic forward line of Lalthathanga Khawlhring, Hugo Boumous, and Ahmed Jahouh.
The visitors took an early lead in the 12th minute when Isak Vanlalruatfela capitalized on a defensive lapse to fire the ball past Hyderabad’s goalkeeper Lalbiakhlua Jongte. Despite Roy Krishna being brought down near the goal line, the referee allowed play to continue, and Isak made no mistake in finding the net.
Hyderabad tried to respond with sporadic attacks through Edmilson Correia and Abdul Rabeeh, but their lack of penetration in the final third left them struggling. Odisha’s relentless attack paid off again in the 30th minute when a solo run by Lalthathanga Khawlhring forced Jongte into a hasty deflection, which substitute Diego Mauricio calmly converted to double the lead.
The Nizams’ woes deepened just six minutes after halftime. A curling left-foot cross from Isak found Mawihmingthanga near the goal. In an attempt to save, Jongte fumbled, resulting in an own goal that pushed the score to 3-0.
Odisha’s dominance was cemented in the 70th minute when Mourtada Fall rose above the Hyderabad defense to head in a perfectly delivered cross from the left corner. Five minutes later, Diego Mauricio orchestrated another goal, delivering a pinpoint pass to Lalthathanga, who scored Odisha’s fifth with ease.
The final blow came in the 89th minute when Rahim Ali slotted home the sixth goal, leaving Hyderabad’s defense in tatters. The home side looked bereft of ideas and confidence as Odisha’s attack dismantled them at will.
Hyderabad FC’s winless streak at home is now a glaring concern for coach Thangboi Singto, as the team struggles to find form or momentum in front of their home crowd. Meanwhile, Odisha FC’s clinical performance solidifies their reputation as one of the most formidable teams in the league this season.
Result: Odisha FC 6 (Isak Vanlalruatfela 12’, Diego Mauricio 30’, Lalbiakhlua Jongte own goal 51’, Mourtada Fall 70’, Lalthathanga Khawlhring 75’, Rahim Ali 89’) beat Hyderabad FC 0.
