Odisha FC Secure Future with Head Coach Sergio Lobera’s Contract Extension

Odisha FC fans have a reason to rejoice as head coach Sergio Lobera has committed to an extended stay with the Kalinga Warriors. The Spanish tactician has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm until 2026, adding an additional year to his initial two-year deal.

This move promises to bring much-needed stability and continuity to the club as they look to build on the progress made under Lobera’s leadership.

Lobera’s appointment in 2023 was a significant coup for Odisha FC. Known for his attacking philosophy and tactical prowess, Lobera brought a fresh approach to the Bhubaneswar-based side. His previous successful stints at FC Goa and Mumbai City FC had already established him as one of the top coaches in the Indian Super League (ISL), and his arrival generated considerable excitement among fans and pundits alike.

In his first season with Odisha FC, Lobera delivered on his reputation. The team adopted his possession-based, free-flowing style of play, resulting in a record-breaking season.

Under his guidance, Odisha FC achieved their highest-ever finish in the ISL, securing 4th place and amassing the most points in a single season in the club’s history. Lobera’s impact was evident in the team’s performance metrics:

– Matches: 38

– Wins: 21

– Draws: 7

– Losses: 10

– Highest-ever finish (4th) in the ISL

– Most points for the club in a single ISL season

– 15 games unbeaten across all tournaments

– AFC Cup 2023-24 South Zone Winners

– Unbeaten at the Kalinga Stadium in the ISL 2023-24 Season

The decision to extend Lobera’s contract shows the faith that Odisha FC’s management has in his abilities. His tactical acumen and ability to motivate players have instilled a winning mentality within the squad. Fans can look forward to a brand of football that is both entertaining and effective, as Lobera continues to build a team capable of consistently challenging for silverware.

In his statement regarding the contract extension, Lobera expressed his delight and commitment to the club’s long-term vision. “I am delighted to be at this club. I am very excited to be part of this long-term project. I want to thank the club for their trust in me, and I hope we can achieve success together and enjoy the journey.”

Club President Raj Athwal also shared his enthusiasm for the future under Lobera’s leadership. “His leadership and playing style have been transformative. We are confident that under Coach Lobera’s continued guidance, Odisha FC will achieve even greater success in the coming seasons. We look forward to working closely with him to build a strong team that consistently challenges for trophies and continues to make Odisha proud on the national and continental stage again.”

Lobera’s commitment, combined with Odisha FC’s ambitions, paints a promising picture for the club’s future. With a long-term vision now in place, Lobera can focus on developing a team that not only competes at the highest level domestically but also makes significant strides in continental competitions. The extension of his contract is a testament to the positive impact he has had on the team and the high expectations for the seasons ahead.
