Odisha FC has bolstered its attacking lineup with the signing of Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento, popularly known as Dori, on a deal that runs until the end of the season, with an option to extend for another year.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, with the club expressing confidence in the striker’s ability to make an immediate impact in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Dori, who started his professional journey with Brazilian giants Fluminense FC, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. He was part of the Fluminense squad that reached the Copa Libertadores final in 2008. Over the years, Dori has carved out an impressive career in Asia, particularly in Bangladesh, where he enjoyed notable stints with Dhaka Abahani and Bashundhara Kings.
During his time with Dhaka Abahani, Dori won the Federation Cup and Independence Cup in the 2021–22 season, along with securing a Bangladesh Premier League runner-up finish. He further cemented his reputation at Bashundhara Kings, leading the club to consecutive league titles in 2022–23 and 2023–24, as well as back-to-back Independence Cup triumphs.
Interestingly, Dori has faced Odisha FC before. In the AFC Cup 2023–24, he scored twice in Bashundhara Kings’ 3–2 victory over the Kalinga Warriors in Dhaka, showing his knack for delivering in high-stakes matches.
His recent exploits include a standout performance in the 2024 Super League Kerala, where he netted eight goals in 11 matches, earning him the Golden Boot. These achievements show his ability to adapt to different leagues and maintain a high standard of performance.
Expressing his excitement about joining Odisha FC, Dori said, “I am happy to be a part of this group. I will work hard every day to help Odisha stay at the top and among the best. Once again, thank you very much for everyone’s welcome.”
Odisha head coach Sergio Lobera also spoke highly of the new signing, stating, “A player we know well from facing him in the AFC Cup, he is a goalscorer, he has scored many goals in all the teams he has been in. He has a lot of experience, and he is a player who I think can help us a lot.”
Dori has already joined the squad for training and will be eligible to feature in the ISL from January 1, 2025. Odisha FC fans will be eager to see if the Brazilian can replicate his scoring prowess and help the team achieve its ambitions.
