Odisha FC’s head coach Sergio Lobera expressed his happiness after their comprehensive 6-0 win against Hyderabad FC in the ongoing Indian Super League at the GMC Balayogi Stadium, Hyderabad on Monday.
Isak Vanlalruatfela scored the opening goal for the visitors in the 12th minute of the game. Diego Mauricio then doubled the team’s lead as scored at the half-an-hour mark.
After the first half, Hyderabad FC goalkeeper Jongte scored an own goal. Subsequently, Rahim Ali, Khawlhring, and Mourtada Fall scored to give a convincing win to their team.
“I am very happy. Not only about the result, the three points but also about the way we got the three points. It has been a very good game. I think the performance of my team was amazing today,” Lobera said in the post-match press conference.
“I am very happy also because we showed improvement in the different areas we needed to improve. We need to be happy today, but tomorrow we need to put the focus on the next game against Bengaluru FC,” he further added.
The Spaniard said it is crucial for them to take one game at a time and not think too far ahead in the tournament.
“It’s always important to get points to improve our position on the table. But to think about where we are going to be at the end of the season is a big mistake. We need to go step by step. We know this league is very difficult. Maybe this year is the most difficult and most competitive season.”
Lobera wants his players to keep the winning impetus and deliver for the team in the upcoming matches.
“I think there are a lot of teams involved to get the same target, the playoffs. Maybe in other seasons, there are six or seven favourites to get this. It will be a very tough season, but now the table is not the most important thing,” he commented.
“Now we need to put focus on improving game by game and showing the level we showed today,” Lobera signed off.
The Kalinga Warriors will next take on Bengaluru FC at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar on Sunday.
