Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle feels his team could have scored more goals after a 5-2 win against Jamshedpur FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai in the ongoing Indian Super League on Sunday.
Rei Tachikawa was able to put the visitors in front as he scored in the 18th minute. However, Daniel Chima Chikwu scored an equalizer after seven minutes.
Subsequently, Lukas Brambilla gave a 2-1 lead to the Marina Machans at the stroke of half-time. Irfan Yadwad then strengthened the lead in the 57th minute but Mohammed Sanan was able to get one back for the tourists.
However, Yadwad and Chikwu once again found the back of the net towards the fag end of the game to help Chennaiyin FC end the tournament on a high.
“We were under pressure because we had to stand up and deal with a lot of cross balls and throw-ins and corners coming in. But the boys stood up to that, I think we were excellent from there. Even when we went a goal behind, we’d been the better team at that time, we had chances,” the coach said during the post-match press conference.
The gaffer said it was a crucial game for the opposition as they needed a point to confirm their playoffs game at home.
“Jamshedpur FC were highly motivated today because they needed a minimum of a point because they wanted a home game in the playoffs. So we knew and we made changes,” he stated.
“I wanted the boys to get minutes and different things with that. And, obviously, injury, suspension, different things were there. But, they stepped up,” he added.
Coach shared the thoughts he had during the game while on the sideline.
“So I felt aggrieved to be 1-0 down, but all the goals we had tonight, I am pleased for obviously, especially Daniel getting the ball to Irfan, Lucas, and that little step over. But we could have had more,” he shared.
