Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has tipped his team as the best squad in the world after they made it to the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League. The Parisians registered a 5-4 aggregate win over Aston Villa in the quarterfinal.
PSG has not yet won the most prestigious club tournament in Europe, and they will either face Arsenal or Real Madrid in the semifinal.
Under Enrique’s tutelage, PSG has replaced big players like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi.
The Ligue 1 champions lost the second-leg quarterfinal by 3-2 but they were carrying a 3-1 advantage of the first-leg, which helped them move forward in the competition.
PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made some stunning saves in the second half and played a key role in his team’s progress.
“I think I have the best squad in the world, not only the goalkeeper. When you are in a club like PSG, you have a lot of quality players,” Luis Enrique told Amazon Prime TV. “I think in the whole two matches, we deserved to win.
“I am very happy because I can offer our supporters another qualification to the semifinal.”
This is the second time in a row when PSG have made to the last four of the Champions League.
Enrique showered praise on Aston Villa for their fighting attitude as the Premier League club scored thrice despite being down 2-0 in the second leg.
“We started the game in a great way, scoring two amazing goals, trying to take advantage of the spaces,” the former Barcelona coach said. “We cannot forget, this is the Champions League and you have to accept that the opposite team has a lot of quality. Aston Villa played with a lot of intensity in the second half.
“They didn’t have anything to lose because they lost the first match and were losing at halftime in the first half [of the second leg].”
