Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto de Zerbi reflected on the positives after a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Lilywhites are yet to register their first win of the season and have three draws and as many losses after six games.
Meanwhile, after a goalless first half, Bryan Mbeumo scored for the home team in the 73rd minute. However, Dominic Solanke scored in the stoppage time for the visitors to help them earn a point from the brink of a loss.
De Zerbi hailed his players’ collective effort after sharing the spoils with United.
“We showed the right reaction. We played a great game,” boss De Zerbi said.
“I think we are playing well, not [just] today, also the other games before Manchester, but today has been the game where for the first time in this season we showed to be a team.
“We played for the teammates, we played together, we believed until the end of the game, we stayed inside of the game in every situation, and we attacked as a team, we defended as a team, the right football behaviour.”
Spurs will now train at a camp in Spain ahead of their return to action at home to promoted Coventry next Monday.
“To work together, to stay together, to go for dinner together, to know better each other, because to be a team you have to know the teammates, to stay together,” De Zerbi said of the benefits of the trip.
“We have to build the team. Now the target is to build the team, not the group of the players.
“We are a great group of players, but we are not a team yet. Today, this game, we show to be a team.
“To be a team is to play for the teammates, suffer together, attack together, defend together, the players who come inside five minutes, three minutes, like Mateus Fernandes, they have to play like they are in the first XI, without problems, without other faults.
“We have to find the balance between the confidence in ourselves and to be hungry in the training and in the games.”
