Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was disappointed after his team succumbed to the 11th loss of the season, suffering a 0-2 defeat against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
After no goals in the opening half, Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a brace for the home team to give all three points to his team.
The Red Devils dominated the possession with 67% but could only manage two shots on target.
“The result is really bad,” United manager Ruben Amorim told Sky Sports. “The performance was a little bit better than the last games. We controlled the transitions quite well for Crystal Palace.
“It’s normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a hard season for them but football can change in certain moments. I will prepare the next game and move forward. Better things will come.”
Meanwhile, to make matters worse for Manchester United, Lisandro Martínez was substituted in the 82nd minute after he suffered a knee injury. The Portuguese manager said he fears that the injury is serious.
“Licha [Martínez] is really important for us, not just as a player, but as a character,” Amorim said. “I think it’s a bad situation. Let’s wait and see with the doctor, but I think it is serious.
“We are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation. He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious. We are here to help him in this difficult moment like he has helped us.”
The manager said they could have avoided the two goals they conceded due to defensive mistakes.
“It was a hard day for team and fans,” he said. “We lose again and suffer two goals that we can avoid.
“It’s normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a hard season for them but football can change in certain moments. I will prepare the next game and move forward. Better things will come.”
Manchester United will next take on Leicester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Friday night.
