Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim wants striker Marcus Rashford to stay at the club. Rashford was omitted by Amorim from the derby clash against Manchester City and the forward said he is ready for new challenges.
Rashford isn’t in the best of forms in the ongoing season as he has scored seven goals and has provided three assists in 24 games across competitions.
Furthermore, the 27-year-old is under the pump for his disciplinary issues in the ongoing season. Former United manager Erik Ten Hag had also left out Rashford, revealing the forward failed to attend team’s meetings. Rashford was also omitted from an FA Cup trip to Newport last season after a night out in Belfast.
“We have here a new challenge,” Amorim told a news conference on Wednesday.
“It’s a tough one. For me it’s the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. This is a really new challenge and the biggest one. I really hope all my players are ready for this new challenge.”
Meanwhile, Rashford signed a £325,000-a-week 4½-year contract extension at United in July 2023.
The Portuguese manager said he has got the same rules for every player of his squad. Alejandro Garnacho was also dropped from United’s team against Manchester City.
“It’s the same situation for all the other players,” Amorim said.
“If they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see at the end of training.
“I want the best of each one of them [the players] and that is the key point for me. I just want to win and to help the team be better.
“We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple and we will try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past. And that’s all.
“This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
Manchester United will next take on Tottenham Hotspur in the quarterfinal of the EFL Cup.
