Ryan Giggs Breaks Silence Ahead of Salford City’s FA Cup Clash With Manchester City

Ryan Giggs, co-owner and sporting director of Salford City, has largely kept a low profile since stepping into a more active role with the club. However, the upcoming FA Cup showdown with Manchester City has prompted the Manchester United legend to speak out. For Giggs, this monumental clash is more than just a game—it’s a unique opportunity to showcase Salford City’s growth while maintaining their focus on securing promotion from League Two.

Giggs, alongside his “Class of ‘92” teammates—including Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, David Beckham, and Phil Neville—has been a driving force behind Salford City’s rise since taking ownership in 2014. Over the past decade, the club has climbed the ranks of English football, transforming from a semi-professional side in the Northern Premier League Division One North to a competitive team in the English Football League (EFL).

Though Giggs has taken on a more hands-on role in the last 18 months, including being named sporting director, he has seldom spoken publicly about his involvement. His silence was broken as excitement builds for the highly anticipated FA Cup match against Manchester City.

“When the draw was announced, it was a special moment for the club,” Giggs said. “Playing against a team like Manchester City, given their recent dominance, is a fantastic opportunity for our players. It’s not just about the game; it’s also about showing how far we’ve come as a club.”

While the FA Cup clash has generated significant buzz, Giggs remains clear about Salford City’s priorities. The club currently sits third in League Two, and their promotion push remains at the forefront of their ambitions.

“It’s exciting to have a game like this on the horizon,” Giggs explained, “but we’ve been careful to keep our focus on the league. The players have done a brilliant job staying grounded and continuing their strong form.”

Giggs credits much of this balance to head coach Karl Robinson, who has managed the team’s preparations with a level head. “Karl has handled the situation incredibly well,” Giggs noted. “He knows how to keep the players motivated without letting the occasion overshadow our league campaign.”

Salford City enters the Manchester City match in excellent form, a testament to their commitment to staying on course in the league. This discipline, Giggs believes, will serve them well both in their promotion bid and on the big stage against City.
