Sporting Club Delhi’s debut Indian Super League (ISL) campaign is shaping up to be a defining period, both on and off the pitch, as the club looks to establish itself in the national capital following a major transition.
Previously known as Hyderabad FC since the 2019-20 season, the club underwent a change in ownership in 2024 due to financial difficulties. The rebranding to SC Delhi marks not just a shift in name, but the beginning of a new identity in a city eager for a strong footballing presence.
However, the start to the 2025-26 season has been far from smooth. SC Delhi endured defeats in their opening three matches before salvaging a 2-2 draw against Mumbai City. The slow start leaves them 13th in the standings, highlighting the scale of the challenge ahead for the newly restructured side.
Beyond results, the club faces an equally pressing task — building a connection with Delhi’s football fans. Establishing a loyal fan base in a competitive sporting market is no easy feat, especially for a team still finding its footing.
Head coach Tomasz Tchorz acknowledged that success on the pitch plays a key role in attracting supporters. “I think fans will start coming when the results are there. That sparks interest for fans to come and support the team because everyone wants to be a part of something successful,” he said.
His remarks underline a simple reality: performances and results often dictate fan engagement, particularly for a club attempting to win over a new audience.
SC Delhi now have an opportunity to shift momentum when they host second-placed Jamshedpur FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The fixture represents more than just a chance to climb the table — it is a moment to make a statement in front of their home crowd and begin shaping a stronger identity.
A positive result could serve as a turning point, not only boosting confidence within the squad but also helping spark interest among local fans. For a club at the start of a new journey, such moments can prove crucial.
As the season unfolds, SC Delhi’s progress will be measured not just in points, but in how effectively it can blend performances with a growing connection to the capital’s football community.
