Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera was delighted after a 3-2 win against Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur in the ongoing Indian Super League on Wednesday. Dori scored the opening goal for the Kalinga Warriors in the 21st minute of the game.
Subsequently, Hugo Boumous doubled the visitors’ lead in the 37th minute. After the first-half break, Boumous scored his second of the night in the 53rd minute.
However, the home team bounced back as Jordan Murray scored from a spot-kick in the 84th minute. Stephen Eze then scored in the stoppage time but there was no late drama of an equalizer.
“It’s not easy to play here against a very strong team. We played very well. We had chances to score more goals. The only situation I am not happy with is the need to suffer at the end of the game where I think we played very well and we had more chances to score a lot of goals. And we conceded two silly goals and finally, we were suffering. But I’m very happy with the performance of the team,” Sergio Lobera said in the post-match press conference.
Odisha FC had 52.9% possession and took a total of eight shots on target whereas Jamshedpur FC had seven shots on target.
“I think we dominated more than these minutes (at the end). We dominated the game in different ways. If dominating a game means having more possession of the ball, then we didn’t do it during 90 minutes but I think we dominated the game because when we were recovering the ball, we were taking advantage of the spaces the opponent gave to us. We spoke about this to our players before we started the game. Today we were very dangerous in counter-attacks also and we had clear chances. We needed to be more clinical and capitalize on our chances. We could have scored the fourth goal. In two actions, I think they scored two goals. Two very specific actions: one throw-in and one penalty. In general, I think we dominated the game against a very difficult team and a very strong team,” Lobera added.
This was Odisha FC’s last match of the league phase and they would want Mumbai City FC to lose both of their remaining games for them to qualify for the playoffs.
