Bengaluru FC’s veteran Sunil Chhetri is still going strongly at the top level despite turning 40. Chhetri scored a stunning hat-trick against southern rivals Kerala Blasters FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru in his team’s convincing 4-2 win on Saturday.
The football legend revealed he tries to give his best on the pitch and whenever he achieves positive results, he has no regrets.
Chhetri has been in sublime form in the ongoing Indian Super League season with eight goals in 11 matches for the Blues, which is the joint second-highest.
Speaking to indiansuperleague.com after the game, he said, “I think right now the feeling that I have will end and I enjoy every bit of it. I try to give whatever I have so whenever it does end I do not have any regrets that is the driving force right now.”
The skipper also had huge praise for the fans support for the Blues.
“Amazing.. especially when we were at 2-2 you could hear them backing us, cheering us, that was one of the reasons why we came back,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC’s defender Nikhil Poojary also gave his gratitude to the fans for putting their weight behind the team.
“(It was) lovely. Every time we play, the support we get makes a difference.. after the draw (when Kerala Blasters FC equalised), it was their voice that motivated us to get the comeback,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, the Blues took a 2-0 lead after Chhetri and Ryan Williams scored in the first half but the Yellow Tuskers bounced back with Jesus Jimenez and Lallawmawma finding the back of the net in the second half. However, Chhetri put the game to bed as he scored two more goals.
Fellow defender Aleksandar Jovanovic said, “We started on the front foot, We brought more energy, especially in the first half. We scored two great goals and in the second half we started out a bit slower and Kerala Blasters FC started to get the upper hand but in the end, we kept pushing and came out the winner.”
Bengaluru FC will next take on FC Goa at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday.
